Lori Bell

“One of the finest virtuoso flutists of our time”
– Latin Jazz Network, June 19 2009

Her first recording earned 4 1/2 stars from Leonard Feather, and her second, 4 stars from the Los Angeles Times. The Brooklyn native and long time San Diego resident plays everything from Bach to bebop. “Bell’s playing on C flute and the lower, darker-sounding alto flute is gorgeous, filled with light and air on ballads. Briskly inventive on her bop tinged improvisations.” (Los Angeles Times). For her Resonance debut, Lori explores the music of the world famous Brazilian singer and composer Djavan, particularly his 70’s era music before he was known in America. As this beautiful album featuring pianist Tamir Hendelman ably demonstrates, the music of Djavan lends itself beautifully to jazz, and Lori Bell is superb. This album will gain her international recognition as one of today’s great flautists.
